Dakota State held Military Appreciation Night

Dakota State held Military Appreciation NightMADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University Athletics Department held their Military Appreciation Night on Jan. 5 during a basketball doubleheader versus Midland (Neb.).

As a part of the night's festivities, the South Dakota National Guard members presented the huge American Flag lent to us by Prostrollos All-American Auto Mall as the Maplewood Boys group sang the national anthem.

The Dakota State University Athletic Department teamed up with a group from Leadership Madison and created a day of events geared toward the military members and their families.  The leadership group sponsored an event in the Community Center with free food and inflatables for the kids to enjoy during the afternoon. Then, all the military members and their families were invited attend the basketball games free of charge in the evening.  The National Guard was honored at halftime with a long loud ovation from all those in attendance.

"The Military Appreciation Night that was sponsored by Dakota State University and DSU Athletics is a tribute and an acknowledgment of their support to our United States Armed Forces," said SFC Mark Ferber from the local 211th Engineer Company (Sapper) in Madison.  "Having the 211th Engineer Company Soldiers involved and able to unfold and hold the flag during the star spangled banner was a huge honor and privilege to our unit.  The 211th continues to be a huge supporter of Dakota State Athletics and the community of Madison."
