Hardrockers defeat Lady T’s in DSU women’s basketball exhibition game

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines jumped to an 8-0 lead over Dakota State Saturday afternoon at the King Center and never trailed in the game. The Hardrockers defeated the Lady T's by the score of 93-69 in the battle of former Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) members.
This game counted as an exhibition game for Dakota State, which remains at 4-9 overall record. South Dakota Mines, member of NCAA Division II independent school, raised their record to 10-8.
South Dakota Mines raced to a 53-34 halftime lead over the Lady T's. The Hardrockers shot 65.6 percent (21-for-32) from the field in the first-half, including 6-for-13 from the 3-point range. The Lady T's shot 57.7 percent (15-for-26) from the field in the first twenty minutes of the game.
SDM outscored Dakota State 40-35 in the second-half.
Kylie Westover shot 7-for-11 from the field, 2-for-4 from the 3-point line and converted two free-throws to earn 18 points for the Lady T's. Cassie Jacobsen added 11 points. Brittany Rosberg scored seven points and grabbed four rebounds off the bench. Yui Onodera dished out six assists, while Courtney Hulstein added four assists.
SDM's Katie Strandholm was perfect 7-for-7 from the field and made eight free-throws in 11 attempts for 23 points. Hillary Hawkins added 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds. She was 6-for-10 from the 3-point line. Devyn Asche scored 14 points and earned eight rebounds off the bench. Alexis Long had 11 points. Alexia Mader produced five assists.
The Hardrockers shot 58.2 percent from the field (32-for-55) compared to the Lady T's 50 percent (27-for-54). SDM was 11-for-21 from the 3-point arc (52.4 percent), while DSU was 6-for-23 (26.1 percent).
South Dakota Mines went to the free-throw line 26 times, converting 18 free-throws (69.2 percent). The Lady T's missed one free throw in 10 attempts (90 percent).
SDM outrebounded the Lady T's 34-20.
Dakota State looks to snap their losing streak as they travel to Kyle, S.D. on Sunday afternoon. DSU visits Oglala Lakota (S.D.) at the Multipurpose Gym. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. (Central Time)/1 p.m. (Mountain Time).
