DSU tracksters shine at Iowa State Open

AMES, Iowa – Three Dakota State University runners had produced national qualifying times in the second day of the Iowa State Open Saturday. Various schools from all levels competed at the Harry Hoak Track in the Lied Center.
Andy Coy captured the men's one-mile run that featured a total of 59 runners. He clocked a time of four minutes and 13.53 seconds, which is the fastest time in the NAIA. As a result, he qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship meet for the fourth consecutive year in his four-year stellar career at DSU.
In the men's 60-meter dash prelims, Seth Boomsma qualified for the finals with a third-place finish with a time of 6.84 seconds. D'Artist Williams was 12th in 7.03 seconds. Stacey Berg placed 50th in 7.35 seconds.
Boomsma produced a DSU school record and national qualifying time in the men's 60-meter dash finals. He was the top NAIA place finisher with a time of 6.77 seconds, breaking the previous old DSU school record of 6.81 seconds set by Brian Melvin in 2006. Boomsma's time was also tied for the fastest time in the NAIA.
Stephanie Uher qualified for the NAIA nationals by recording a time of 1:28.43 in the women's 600-yard run. She placed 12th in the event.
Stephanie Warnke clocked a time of 2:26.04 for a 14th-place finish in the women's 800-meter run. On the men's side, Steve Selechert was 22nd with a time of 1:59.03.
In the 400-meter dash, Uher was 27th in 1:02.64 and Summer Bronson placed 37th in 1:03.97 in the women's division. Gabe Samuelson placed 60th in 53.50 seconds and Mark Moeller was 67th in 54.23 seconds.
Moeller was just about .50 seconds off for a national qualifying mark in the men's 600-yard dash. He finished 19th with a time of 1:14.81. Gabe Samuelson placed 49th in 1:18.21.
Bronson recorded a time of 10.12 seconds for a 36th-place finish in the women's 60-meter hurdles.
Dakota State returns back to action on Saturday, Jan. 26. The Trojans compete in the Buena Vista Open, which is located in Storm Lake, Iowa.
