Jimmies defeat Lady T's in Dakota Tip-off Classic

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - Four former Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) members - Dakota State (S.D.), Jamestown (N.D.), Mayville State (N.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.) - met Saturday at the Civic Center. The nationally-ranked Jamestown defeated the Lady T's 97-72 on the first day of the Dakota Tip-off Classic.
Dakota State dropped their overall record to 5-11 and 0-1 in Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) conference record. Jamestown, No. 17 in the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball national poll, raised their record to 17-3 and 2-1 in the A.I.I.
The Jimmies raced to a 6-0 lead in the first one minute and one second of the game. JC extended their lead to 15-5 with 15:42 left in the first-half and never trailed in the game.
Jamestown earned a 53-34 halftime lead. The Jimmies were 19-for-38 from the field (50 percent), including 8-for-14 (57.1 percent) from the 3-point arc. DSU was 10-for-18 (55.6 percent) from the field, 2-for-3 (66.7 percent) from the 3-point arc and 12-for-17 (70.6 percent) from the free-throw line.
JC outscored the Lady T's 44-38 in the final twenty minutes of the game.
Kylie Westover had 15 points for DSU. She was 5-for-13 from the field and 5-for-6 at the free-throw line. Brittany Rosberg scored 10 points off the bench (4-for-6 from the field and 2-for-2 from the 3-point arc). She earned six rebounds. Courtney Hulstein added eight points from the bench. Cassie Jacobsen had seven points.
Jayda Swenson made seven free-throws in eight attempts to earn seven points for the Lady T's. She pulled down seven rebounds. Haley Stover dished out three assists.
Four players - Hannah Steele, Carly Jensen, Morgan Mathison and Megan Pold - each had 12 points for the Jimmies. Bridget Schuneman added 10 points off the bench. Steele produced six assists.
Pold grabbed six rebounds for Jamestown.
The Jimmies shot 47.2 percent overall from the field (34-for-72) compared to the Lady T's 45.7 percent (21-for-46). JC drained 13 3-pionters in 25 attempts (52 percent), while DSU was 6-for-11 from the 3-point arc (54.5 percent).
Dakota State converted 24 free-throws in 35 attempts (68.6 percent). Jamestown went to the free-throw line 25 times, making 16 free-throws (64 percent).
DSU returns back to action Sunday afternoon as they play No. 13 Valley City State (lost to Mayville State 65-59 earlier in the day). The Dakota Tip-off Classic's consolation game is set for 1 p.m. at the Civic Center in Jamestown, N.D.
