Two Madison standouts sign to join DSU Football

Ayson JonesMADISON, S.D. – Dakota State University head football coach Josh Anderson is proud to announced two local signees – Ayson Jones and Brendon Waldner – to join the Trojan Football program this coming fall.  Both Jones and Waldner will graduate from Madison High School this spring.

Jones – six-foot-two-inches and 245 pounds – will play as a defensive lineman for the Trojans.  He was named to Unsung Hero in football.  Jones also was a state wrestling qualifier for the Bulldogs. 

Ayson is the son of Thomas and Alla Jones.  He plans to study Business at Dakota State University.

Brendon WaldnerWaldner – five-foot-nine-inches and 160 pounds – will play as wide receiver or defensive back for DSU.  He was named to All-Conference in football for Madison.  He was the team captain and was selected as the team's most valuable player in 2012.  Waldner was named to Player of the Game and Leading Returner for the Bulldogs.  He will play in the South Dakota All-Star game this coming summer.  Waldner also lettered in wrestling and track.  He is a state track qualifier and was named to the Top 10 honor roll in track.

Brendon is the son of Mike and Lori Waldner.  He plans to major in Education at DSU.

Both Jones and Waldner were coached under Max Hodgen, former football player for Dakota State.  They were integral members of the Madison Bulldogs team that qualified for the state playoffs for the first time since 2006.
