Vinson earns A.I.I. Male Athlete of the Week honor

ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS (A.I.I.) PLAYER OF THE WEEK RELEASE
MADISON, S.D. – Junior forward Yusuf Vinson of Dakota State University men's basketball team was selected to Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Male Athlete of the Week honor, announced Monday morning.
It was the second time this season that Vinson had received this honor.
Vinson had a double-double performance for the week averaging 11 points and 10 rebounds per game for the Trojans. He came off the bench to score 10 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in a 63-55 road victory over Mount Marty (S.D.) on Jan. 29. He added 12 points and earned eight rebounds in a 74-62 home win over Jamestown (N.D.) on Feb. 2.
He shot 53.3 percent from the field and had three 3-pointers and three steals for the week.
According to the DakStats statistical website as of Monday, Vinson ranks 31st in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (2.8). In addition, he leads the A.I.I. with an average of 7.6 rebounds per game (47th in the nation).
Yusuf is the son of Stephanie Vinson of Lincoln, Neb. He is a Physical Education major at Dakota State University.
Dakota State (17-7 overall record, 3-2 A.I.I. conference record) plays their final home regular-season game on Wednesday night. The Trojans are 9-2 at home this season. DSU entertains Mayville State (N.D.) in the 'Blue-Out' night to help raise cancer awareness (fans are encouraged to wear blue clothing/apparel to the game). Seniors will be recognized prior to the game. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse.
