Two DSU runners capture individual titles at Dordt (Iowa) Invitational

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – Two Dakota State University runners captured individual titles at the Dordt (Iowa) Invitational Saturday. The meet was held at the DC's Recreation Center.
Stephanie Uher improved her personal and DSU school record as she won the women's 600-meter run title. She recorded a new DSU school record and improved her national qualifying time of one minute and 38.19 seconds. There were a total of 13 runners in the race.
In the men's 55-meter dash prelims, Seth Boomsma placed first with a time of 6.45 seconds. D'Artist Williams was third in 6.58 seconds. Both Boomsma and Williams qualified for the 55-meter dash finals. Stacey Berg was 10th (6.75 seconds). Trevor Reddick placed 36th (7.25 seconds).
Boomsma won the 55-meter dash race as he recorded a national qualifying time of 6.39 seconds. Williams was the runner-up with a time of 6.48 seconds, but fell short by .01 seconds to qualify for the NAIA Nationals.
Two DSU men's 200-meter runners placed in the top five. Berg placed third with a time of 23.07 seconds, while Williams was fifth in 23.19 seconds. Zach Ely finished 23rd (24.34 seconds). Reddick placed 34th (25.88 seconds).
Three Trojan women's runners dominated the 1000-meters race, which featured 14 runners in the race. Stephanie Warnke placed fourth with a time of 3:08.27. Kayla Sveen was fifth in 3:14.16. Brooke Fritz placed seventh (3:17.73).
Steve Selchert finished fifth in the men's 800-meter run. He clocked a time of 1:58.50. Andy Quenzer was 15th (2:02.57). Jared Sutton placed 34th with a time of 2:14.08.
In the men's 600-meter run, Mark Moeller recorded a sixth-place finish with a time of 1:25.26. Jared Truman finished 14th in 1:28.74.
Summer Bronson ran a time of 9.11 seconds in the women's 55-meter hurdles for a seventh-place finish in the prelims. On the men's side, Ely produced a time of 8.32 seconds for a seventh-place finish. David Sotir was 10th (8.38 seconds). Justin Templeton finished 11th (8.47 seconds). Chad Pelkofer clocked a time of 8.66 seconds for a 15th-place finish.
Berg leaped a measurement of 21 feet and 6.25 inches for a seventh-place finish in the men's long jump.
Ryan Gimbel threw a measurement of 49 feet and 11.75 seconds for a tenth-place finish in the men's weight throw. Trevor Van Tilburg was 21st (43 feet and 9.25 seconds). Trevor Rossknecht placed 29th (36 feet and 8.25 inches).
In the women's side, Ashley Currey produced a measurement of 42 feet and 3.25 inches for a 19th-place finish. She was 2.75 inches short of tying the DSU school record (Katie Gylfe – 42 feet and 6 inches set in 2008). Shayna Dwyer was 28th with a measurement of 36 feet and 11 inches.
Three DSU long-distance runners placed in the 3000-meters race. Anastasia Asimakopoulos was 11th with a time of 12:07.09. Amber Wiebenga (women's – 13:32.56) and Taylor Hauge (men's – 9:49.76) both finished 16th.
Hague ran a time of 4:50.72 to record a 15th-place finish in the men's one-mile run.
Currey was 17th in the women's shot put. She threw a measurement of 36 feet. Dwyer recorded a measurement of 32 feet and 6.5 inches for a 22nd-place finish.
Gabe Samuelson clocked a time of 55.50 seconds in the men's 400-meter dash. He placed 17th in the race.
DSU women's 4 x 400-meter relay team recorded a time of 4:14.42 to earn a sixth-place finish. The men's 4 x 400-meter relay team was seventh in 3:34.67.
Dakota State competes in the final-regular indoor track and field meet next Saturday, Feb. 16. The Trojans make their third trip (during the indoor track & field season) to Storm Lake, Iowa as they participate in the Buena Vista Relays.
