Trojan Softball goes 6-3 in Oklahoma and Kansas

OKLAHOMA & KANSAS – The Dakota State University softball team kicked off their 2013 season with four different stops in the states of Oklahoma and Kansas. After dropping a doubleheader to open the season, the Trojans won six of the next seven games to earn a 6-3 overall record.
DSU visited Oklahoma Wesleyan at the OKWU Softball Field on March 5 in Bartlesville, Okla. The Trojans lost to the Eagles by the score of 14-0 and 13-5.
Dakota State bounced back with a doubleheader sweep over Mid-American Christian (Okla.) on March 6 in Oklahoma City. The Trojans recorded 8-4 and 11-10 victories over MAC.
DSU continued their winning streak as they dominated Hillsdale Baptist (Okla.) in Moore, Okla. on March 7. Dakota State dominated the Saints 20-1 in five innings in the first game and 11-6 in the second game.
The Trojans played in the McPherson (Kan.) Tournament on March 8 in Wichita, Kan. (it was originally scheduled to play in McPherson, but was moved to Wichita due to wet field conditions). The Trojans extended their winning streak to five games as they defeated McPherson 7-3 in the first game of the tournament.
Bethel (Kan.) ended DSU's winning streak in the second game of the tournament by the score of 6-0. The Trojans bounced back in the winning column as they defeated Sterling (Kan.) 9-6 in the third game on March 8.
The McPherson tournament games on March 9 were rained out and will not be made up.
Brittany Hill leads the team and Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) in batting average with .483 (14 hits). According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Tuesday, she ranks 19th in the nation in total triples (2) and triples per game (0.2). Hill records 2.8 bases per game, which is 29th best in the nation. Her slugging percentage through nine games is .862, 41st best in the nation.
Elizabeth Rubalcava produces 10 runs batted in (RBI) through nine games. She averages 1.1 RBIs per game for the Trojans. Rubalcava ranks 44th in the nation in hits per game (1.6).
Chelsey John swipes six bases for DSU. She average 0.7 stolen bases per game, which ranks her 29th in the nation.
Samantha Deen leads team's pitching with an earned runs average (ERA) of 3.36. She allowed eight earned runs in 16.2 innings and holds a 2-0 pitching record. Deen records 18 strikeouts (9.72 strikeouts per nine innings).
Katie Silbowski currently is 3-1 record and one save (13th in the nation) on the pitching mound for Dakota State. She records an ERA of 4.74 in 20.2 innings. Silbowski records 21 strikeouts. She ranks 45th in the nation in runs scored per game (1.2).
Three different Trojan players – Lexy Miller, Deen and Rubalcava – are ranked first in fielding percentage. They record a fielding percentage of 1.000.
Dakota State has five different categories that are ranked in the top 10. They rank sixth in the nation in double per game (2.2) and triples per game (0.7). The Trojans are seventh in hits per game with an average of 10.2 hits per game. DSU produces an average of 7.0 runs batted in per game, which is ninth best in the nation. DSU is ninth in batting average of .368.
The Trojans are 12th in the nation in runs scored per game (7.9). DSU averages 2.4 stolen bases, which is 16th-best in the nation. Dakota State produces six triples (ranks 18th in the nation) and a slugging percentage of .532 (19th) best in the nation. The Trojans swipe 41 bases through the first nine games of the season, ranking them 41st in the nation.
Dakota State returns back to action this weekend. The Trojans play a four-game series with Saint Mary (Neb.) in Omaha on Saturday and Sunday. The doubleheader is slated for 12 noon on both days.
