John Lamb selected to 2013 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball All-Tournament Team
March 13, 2013
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – John Lamb of Dakota State University was selected to the 2013 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball All-Tournament Team, announced late Tuesday night after the conclusion of the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship game at the Keeter Gymnasium.
Lamb, a 6-foot-1-inch junior guard, averaged 16 points per game in the national tournament. He was 16-for-36 from the field (44.4 percent), including 10-for-28 from the 3-point arc (35.7 percent). He recorded eight steals in the tournament for an average of 2.3 steals per game.
Lamb poured in 26 points – 18 of which came in the second-half – in an 89-80 shocker victory over No. 5 Warner Pacific (Ore.) in the first round of the national tournament on March 7. He was 8-for-15 from the field and 6-for-13 from the 3-point line in the game.
In the 'Sweet Sixteen' round on March 8, Lamb added eight points as the Trojans survived a 61-60 nail-biter win over Saint Thomas (Fla.). He scored 14 points in the NAIA's 'Elite Eight' 72-59 loss to Grace (Ind.) on March 9.
According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Thursday morning, Lamb ranks 12th in the nation in total 3-point field goals made with 90 – the second most 3-pointers in a single season in Trojan men's basketball record book. He tied for seventh most career 3-pointers with Shuan Wisdom (2004-06) in the record book.
Lamb ranks 14th in the nation in 3-point field goal made per game (2.8). He is 31st in the nation in total steals with 62 and 36th in steals per game (1.9).
Dakota State completed their historic season with an overall record of 24-10, the most victories in DSU men's basketball program history. The Trojans won their second straight Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Division II Men's Basketball Conference Postseason Tournament and made their second consecutive trip to the NAIA national tournament.
DSU advanced to the NAIA's 'Elite Eight' for the first time since 1992 (when the Trojans advanced to the 'Final Four').
John – an A.I.I. All-Conference first team selection – is the son of Kathy Lamb of Altoona, Iowa. He is a junior General Studies major at Dakota State University.
