Hortness named Head Baseball Coach at DSU

Dakota State University's Athletic Director Gene Wockenfuss announces the hiring of Scott Hortness as the new head baseball coach. He replaces Dean Berry, who left earlier this summer to take a position at Northern State.

After the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) Baseball Postseason Tournament was completed on Wednesday, the all-conference and postseason awards were announced. Eight Trojan athletes had received the honors. In addition, Nick Mutz was selected as DAC's Co-Pitchers of the Year.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - On the third day of the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) Baseball Postseason Tournament, the fourth-seeded Dakota State University faced an elimination game against top-seeded Jamestown for a spot to get in the DAC Championship game Monday afternoon. Jamestown defeated the Trojans 7-5 at the Jack Brown Stadium.

MAYVILLE, N.D. - The Dakota State University baseball team traveled to the Veterans Memorial Stadium for the DAC Baseball Postseason winner's bracket Sunday. The Trojans and Mayville State are the only undefeated team in the tournament entering Sunday. DSU's rally fell short in the final innings and lost to the Comets 10-7.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The Dakota State University baseball team competed in DAC Baseball Postseason tournament Saturday at the Jack Brown Stadium. The fourth-seeded Trojans faced the fifth-seeded Minot State in the opening round. The Trojans defeated the Beavers 13-3 in seven innings. DSU went on to upset the DAC's top-seed Jamestown College in the night cap, 9-2.

MADISON, S.D. - The Trojan baseball team played their final two home games Sunday against Dickinson State at the Flynn Field. Dickinson State rallied for 7-6 game one victory. The Trojans defeated the Blue Hawks 3-2 in the second game to earn a 2-2 weekend split with Dickinson State.

MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University baseball team returned home Saturday for a DAC's final four-game series of the season. The Trojans welcomed Dickinson State in a breezy Flynn Field. Dickinson State rallied for game one victory 6-4. The Trojans came from behind in the second game 10-9 to earn a split with the Blue Hawks.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The Dakota State University baseball team concluded their nine-game stretch on the road Sunday. The Trojans faced Jamestown at the Jack Brown Stadium. DSU used a seven-run sixth inning to defeat the Jimmies in the first game 12-8. The Trojans held on to defeat Jamestown in the second game 2-0 to earn a split with the Jimmies in a four-game series.
