2009-2010 Season Outlook
This season is a season full of optimism for the Dakota State Women's Basketball program. With a large recruiting class and some very solid returners, Coach Joe Reints feels confident that this year's team can compete for DSU's 16th women's basketball conference championship.
Some of the strengths of this year's team will be our depth and floor balance. With the addition of post players of Donna Lavea, Allegra Kohley and Angela Green, the Trojans will have an inside presence that they did not have the year before. This should relieve some pressure from returning sharp shooters of Alyssa Kirk and Katie Bourk along with the new additions of Brittany Bemis, Lashonda Martin and Dee Pullum on the perimeter.
Coach Reints feels this floor balance will make this year's team a challenge to guard because they can score in so many different ways that it will be hard to create a game plan to just stop one facet of the offensive attack. Phylicia "Sis" Hoffmann and Yui Onodera will challenge for more and more minutes in the backcourt as the year progresses. Ellesse Washington and Sophia Perez bring athleticism and skill to the power forward position. Both players are great rebounders and have the ability to beat their defender off the dribble and stretch the defense past the 3-point line.
One of Coach Reints' main concerns for this new team is their ability to get together quickly and learn a new system. You can look forward to this team steadily getting better as the year progresses as they learn how to play as tight close knit team as they get more comfortable in the system installed by Coach Reints and his coaching staff.
Katie Bourk, Alyssa Kirk and Donna Lavea have made great strides and are emerging as strong leaders of this team. Look for them to lead this team back to the Tyson Center in March!
